Landmarks Illinois seeks nominations for the 2023 Most Endangered Historic Places in Illinois


CHICAGO, Ill., Dec. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Landmarks Illinois Accepting nominations for the 2023 Most Endangered Historic Places award Illinois. Our longest-running advocacy program, the Most Endangered List is designed to highlight historic and culturally important sites in the state that are at risk of destruction, demolition, or inappropriate development. You can nominate for the 2023 most endangered list online. Nominations are due by April 30, 2019. January 17, 2023.

Anyone can submit a nomination to a site. Illinois To be added to the 2023 Most Endangered List. Nominated sites must be in dire need of preservation. They don’t have to be nationally or locally designated landmarks, but they should be appreciated by the local community and/or celebrated for their local history or culture.

All nominations to the 2023 Most Endangered Species List will be reviewed and approved by the Landmarks Illinois board of directors. Landmarks Illinois Nominations for places that are able to tell the stories and histories of communities that have not been given equal attention by the preservation community are especially welcome. The decision on whether their nomination was accepted or rejected will be made in the spring. In 2023, the Most Endangered List will be published. May 2023.

BENEFITS OF THE “MOST ENDANGERED” DESIGNATION
Landmarks Illinois’ Most Endangered Historic Places has included sites Illinois Residents, governing bodies, media outlets and the media often pay greater attention to endangered sites, which helps boost advocacy efforts for its preservation. Legislative efforts can be made to help a site’s preservation by being included on the Most Endangered List.

Landmarks Illinois staff will continue to support preservation efforts of properties that are on the Most Endangered List. This includes continuing communication with local advocates, providing resources, small grants, and connecting where possible. Many cases have resulted in long-lasting relationships between Landmarks Illinois staff and local advocates. Landmarks Illinois staff can also be a link to other preservation professionals like engineers, architects, historians, and others.
