New York Increases Penalties for Unlicensed Cannabis Sales


New York’s Governor, as part of his FY 2024 budget, signed a bill on May 3 that increases civil and taxes penalties for unlicensed and illegal cannabis sales in New York. The law gives the Office of Cannabis Management and the Department of Taxation and Finance more enforcement powers to take action against unlicensed marijuana dispensaries. DTF can issue fines or penalties for unpaid tax. The new law also allows the OCM assess civil penalties to unlicensed marijuana businesses. Fines can reach up to $20,000 a day for the worst conduct.
