Whatsapp India: Abhijit Bose plans to ‘rejoin entrepreneurial world’ after quitting Meta

WhatsApp India head Abhijit Bose, who quit Meta on Tuesday after a four-year stint as the head of the messaging service in India, plans to “rejoin the entrepreneurial world” and will make an announcement soon, he wrote in a Linkedin post.

Bose was cofounder at payments firm Ezetap and joined WhatsApp in 2018. In 2018, he was appointed the first country head of the messaging app. Meta (then Facebook) had hired Bose to expand WhatsApp’s reach in India and drive its payments business.

“It’s been four years since I joined as WhatsApp’s first country head in India, and I’m so proud of what we have built. I am also excited for my next job. I believe that the next five years will be transformational for India – with many of our current pre-IPO companies very quickly becoming the global leaders in their respective sectors. After a small break, I plan to rejoin the entrepreneurial world; you’ll see announcements on that shortly!” Bose wrote.

He joined WhatsApp after the messaging app released WhatsApp Business, a WhatsApp app for small businesses. It also had its API (Application Programming Interface), which allows larger businesses to use the API to facilitate customer engagement on a large scale.

“We brought power to NGOs and small businesses to increase their reach and impact in ways one could never have envisioned. The net result is that WhatsApp has now made a difference as a key ally to India’s social and economic goals,” Bose added in his post.
